Pub players be aware

This is NOT your server.

YOU do not pay for this server.

YOU will not make or break our server.

We don't really care who you are.

Now, is that all mean? Maybe. The server is there not for YOUR enjoyment, but for the members of ATF who DO pay for it. You WILL be kicked to make room for them. You WILL be kicked or banned for not following the rules.

Is this posted to harp on you? no, we enjoy the public playing with us. This is posted to make you understand, our admins will not put up with any crap from anyone.

So enjoy the time you have there and don't screw yourself with our members.

Played on your server for the first time today. Seemed nice, good crowd, reasonable atmosphere. I'm not a fan of all-talk, but that's my problem, yes? My solution is to try to tune out the chatter and listen only for game-relevant info. And I turn off my mic so I don't accidentally call out important info to the opposing team.

Played solely medic, which is the norm for me. Then I heard "Nikita, last warning". And while I was still mentally scrambling to figure out what I could possibly be doing--had someone really said my name? had I heard right? was someone joking?--I was kicked. Around 10:15 PM Central.

Came here, read the rules (agree with them), and I still have no idea what I could possibly have been doing to give offense.

So...I am not complaining. I've run servers before in other games, I know what it's like. As you say, it doesn't matter who/what I am or why I was kicked, that's your right.

But if the admin who kicked me reads this, I would appreciate knowing what he thought I was doing. If I really was doing something offensive, at least I'll know what not to do if I visit again. If it was just a misunderstanding, at least I won't still be trying to figure out what I did.

Not looking to hate on anything or anyone, or to receive hate in return. And I understand that it's silly to even ask...but I'm not used to getting kicked. I'm just a dedicated medic who enjoys supporting a team effort and I am truly confused.

PMing me back would be great, but if, as a visitor to the server, asking for information is unacceptable or if my post here is inappropriate, please just delete it.

Thanks!

I appreciate you coming here in a respectful manner.

So to start, I was the one that kicked you. Every time i saw you, you were healing 1 person and one person only the entire round. I never saw you get any assists with another person other than this "RO1" player. I first asked you to start helping other teammates. You didn't. So then I asked an ATF member who was on your side to watch you for a bit. He noticed the same, you weren't healing anybody but one person. So I replied once more, "last warning Nikita". You still did not heal anybody else but said person. So i kicked you. If by "dedicated medic" you mean healing only one player an entire round, that's not acceptable on our server.
You're more than welcome to play on the server, just help your teammates out. Just don't follow a single person around for the entire map and not give your teammates support.

Ah, interesting. I heal every hurt (and overheal any other) teammate around me whenever possible but when following someone into the thick of it, I pick the person most aware of me and able to keep me alive. Dying doesn't charge the uber. That way I'm around to heal everyone more and do the team the most good! I've never been and will never be one of those medics who pointedly refuses to heal the people around them. Playing like that is just stupid.

I'm sorry I didn't hear you amidst the chatter. And I'm sorry you believe my judgment was in error about how best to play. It would clear up confusion though if you put something in the server rules about how is and is not acceptable to play medic. For suggestions, include things like battle medic (shooting/sawing instead of healing at all), running kritz when the team legitimately needs regular uber, and ubering inappropriate classes (spy, sniper, engineer, scout) when there are other choices available. However, when defining who the medic must heal, don't require medics to follow/uber demos without stickies, soldiers who keep pulling out their equalizer, any player who often travels in a manner the medic cannot follow leaving them alone and vulnerable (sticky or rocket jumping away, or the demo charge, for example), heavies who switch to their boxing gloves when they're ubered (and not out of ammo), etc. Maybe put those in the rules as kickable offenses for those classes as well, it would really help us medics out! Also, keep in mind that the right class for a job (such as taking out a sentry) is not always the right choice. Ubering an excellent soldier to take out sentries is often much more effective than ubering an unskilled demo. So try not to be too judgmental on surface information.

I understand though, once we start talking about skill and effectiveness, how we might start to disagree. I tend to follow/uber skilled over unskilled. And I choose plays-well-with-medic skilled over unaware-of-me-gets-me-killed-no-matter-how-well-they-shoot-stuff-infront-of-them skilled. Once again though, I'll heal everyone running by me every chance I get as much as possible! Watching my assist kills does not mean I'm not healing other people.

Thank you for your response and for your time in doing so. Now I know and I am honestly grateful to have it cleared up.

Recently I've frequently found myself in the ATF TF2 server. I do enjoy myself immensely when in the server. The team play is always refreshing and so is the good natured ribald. Don't worry about me breaking the rules, I've been one of those |TG| bums for quite some time now.

In short, It's been fun playing with everyone these last few days.

I'm new to the forum, my pleasure to make your acquaintance good fellows.

I just wanted to say i love the community, the ATF people and regulars. Cheers!
Best tf2 server.

Might want to update your rules and add:

#14 No falsely accusing any member of ATF or you will be banned no questions asked.

It's not just ATF members. It's ANYONE on the server. If you believe that someone is cheating, msg an ATF member on steam and respectfully state that so and so might be cheating and the reasons why you think so. They'll go into spec IF THEY DEEM WORTHY and check it out. Saying it blatantly on the server through mic makes you a). look like a whiner b). disrespectful (both are against our server rules). Especially since most of the time, cheating is not the case. If it is, it is usually extremely obvious and will be taken care of swiftly.
