ATF's VIP list. What it is and what it means.

The most recent patch enabled a VIP list, where servers could list the players that would be given preferential status when connecting. If the server is full, when another person attempts to join the server checks to see if their game name matches any on the VIP text list. If it does, the server RANDOMLY kicks someone not on the VIP list to make room. If the person is not on the VIP list, they will be put in a cue and will auto join when a spot is available.

ATF has decided that, in addition to putting ATF members onto the VIP list, The top 10 Pubs who play on our server will be added to the VIP list. We will use this link to see who is in the top 10 on non-ATF players on our server, and they will be added to this list. Check here to see where you fall.
http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/216.52.143.104:19567/

What does that mean you ask? It means no more waiting for a spot. You get right in!

Let the games begin!

How would I go about becoming a VIP?
I try to play your server every day, and have almost every point from private to captain, scored on your server.
I've just made a donation too. What more do I need to please the VIP gods?

Thanks.

Thanks for the donation. I added you to the VIP list for a while. If you want a permanent spot, recruit with ATF and see where it leads. =)

Thanks for the donations. While ATF is not interested in 'selling' VIP slots to the general public, we think it is only fair to reward good behavior. Our point in adding the top 10 scoring pubs each month to our VIP list is to encourage a competitive and fun player base for the benefit of all, and to reward our consistent and regular players. The way I see it, making a donation to our server is a way of rewarding us for doing a good job, and there is no reason that the favor should not be returned. If you chose to donate, please be sure to include your BC2 gaming handle, so we'll know whom to thank.

I can be reached by U2U in these forums, or through email at: ATF_thelateDENTarthurDENT

Of course, VIP status is contingent on good behavior. People who violate ATF's server expectations (ATF members and pubs alike) will find themselves losing VIP status and, for continued misbehavior, the ability to play on our server at all. Please avoid all manner of griefing, including engaging in flame wars. We have zero tolerance for racial slurs, cheating/hacking, or disrespect for ATF.

Oh man, that's cool. Thanks a million guys. I get paid this week, I will try to donate at least something. I work 40 hours a week this summer before I go back to University, let see if I can still remain on the VIP list lol.

I've been gaming for alot of years, not very well mind you, but I have always had fun. It seems every time I try to play on your server I am always getting the "random" kick for a VIP member. I'm sure you are all very good people and it appears you run a very well organized clan from what I have read on this sight. I do find it impossible though to get to know anyone if I can't last on your server more than 10 or 15 minutes before I'm "randomly" booted. I assume it is a decent way to do things but I find it hard to believe every time I try to play I get booted. Probably not a real good recruiting tool either. Just my 2 cents since I have ran clans myself in the past. Other than that it seems you run a good server for the 10 minutes I get to try it out.

Well our VIP list is actually very huge. We have 800+ members in our clan (not all play BC2). A lot of our clan that are not in our division play once in a while. So the first people that get to play on our server are the ones that pay for it: our members. The next are the recruits and the ones that are devoted to our server and play a lot; because with out them our server would only be half full.

We welcome new players and potential recruits but we're not hard up for new people. It's a great clan that has a closeness like a family. We're not scowering servers for new people though. We don't put the server up as a public service, it's there for our members to play on and we welcome other people to join us.

As for a recruiting, if you want to play without being kicked, recruit. That's a pretty effective recruiting tool. ;)

I absolutely understand and appreciate your comments Lee. Believe me from visiting your website I saw the number of members here and the variety of games played which intrigued me. I never once assumed you were scouring servers for new people or that your server was a public service. I was more commenting on the 6 or 8 times I have tried out your server at varying times and days in an attempt to get to know ATF members and see if I might be a good fit only to be kicked. Your banner on your server stated recruiting which caused me to join it in the first place. Being of middle-age alot of clans these days are not very respectful which always leads me to try before I waste anyones time going through a recruiting process that could be a bad fit for both parties. Again, this appears to be a very well-organized and ran group of gamers and I want to thank you for taking the time to respond to my post.

Hey Junkman,

I am the division leader for BC2 and am also what some would call 'middle aged' LOL. We get ongoing complains from the public about getting kicked by the server for a VIP slot. Unfortunately I don't know what we can do about it. Our VIP options are either 'on' or 'off' at this point, as far as I know. If I was able to change anything, I would have it refuse to kick for VIP slots within say 20 tickets of the end of a round. It would also be nice to have a setting to kick for the lowest score. If you really want to check us out, put in a recruit app and you'll be added to the VIP list, then you will see if ATF is for you.

Once again thanks for the reply. If I came across as complaining I would like to apologize. That was not my intent. From running clans and servers in the past I know it can be hard to manage and from the respectful comments I have received here I feel confident that all involved do the best they can at all times. That in itself makes me feel like ATF is a group I should explore further and see if I could meet your standards for membership. Again thanks for your reply and hope to see some of you on the battlefield.

Kicked 4 times in a row and being at the top of the opposing side each time looses its "random" feel fellas. It'd be nice to play with you guys, but I feel the "random" feature is a little to "specific".

I'm sorry you're being kicked so many times. Nothing is completely random. DICE coded it somehow. Maybe it's based on your ID and you have a high ID or something. I don't know how the program works. Like it's been said: you can recruit and see if ATF is for you and you won't get kicked. Otherwise you're welcome to play but you'll have to take the chance on being kicked for someone else.

vip kicks

Hello all, I recently been playing on ATF's servers, and it seems to me that I get booted more when I am in a squad with ATF members. I have been considering joining ATF, so I've been trying to squad up with members when I see an opening. More times I have been booted it seems because I was with 3 other ATF in the squad. I was dropped 3 times in one match. Just giving people the heads up. :)

Before the VIP list, whatever admins were on the server were trained to kick for lowest score first (or kick someone who was causing problems on the server, either ongoing complaining over text chat or griefing of some sort) when making room for ATF. We also tried not to kick folks from other clans if they were playing together, and we tended not to kick within a few tickets of the end of the round. I'm not saying that we were perfect, but that was our intent. We followed this policy to help to promote good competition which is a benefit to all. We HAVE NEVER kicked people for being successful players, getting more points/kills whatever.

While manual kicking by admins allows us more control over kicks, it also results in ATF members who contribute to the server being forced to play elsewhere if an admin is not on to open up a slot for them, and it takes up tons of the admin's time. ATF is not a clan of 10 people who got a server on a lark, and I used to spend about 25% of my gaming time some evenings just doing this.

The downside to the VIP list is that we have no control over whom is kicked when someone on the VIP list joins the server. As I have stated before, I would love to have a way to tweak how the VIP list is implemented, but that is not possible at this time. If anybody knows a way to set limits on the VIP list (or exactly how it selects whom to kick) please email me at :ATF_thelateDENTarthurDENT

So to summarize:

1: We will continue to use the VIP list, as it makes the experience much more enjoyable for our members, contributors, and regular pubs.

2: According to DICE, the VIP list kicks "the last one to have loaded the map or not in a squad" (per zh1nto's post here: http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-bad-company-2-pc/1258228-kicke...)--- whom is kicked is NOT IN OUR CONTROL. You can complain until the cows come home, but our only choices with the VIP list are 'ON' or 'OFF' (see point 1)

3: If you want to be added to the VIP list, this can be done through Recruiting with ATF, making it into the top 10 ranking pubs on the server, or contributing to the server fund (Server Donations)

As a side note there are some nights when about 20-25 ATF, recruits and VIP pubs are in the server. What does this mean to you? Well it doesn't leave a lot of room for non VIP people, so yes the chances of you getting kicked a lot will happen. We are a large active clan. If you like our server that much to complain about being kicked, then maybe you should just apply...

Keep in mind if enough steady donation is coming in then more servers could appear too. I think ATF is going to get a BC Vietnam server up when the expansion arrives.
